"Technology on the Rocks"

Sedona 2008! Biker's Information Package

Experience: This adventure is not for beginners. To get the most from the experience we advise you have some off road biking experience and be in reasonable physical condition. However you don't need to be an expert either. Dr. Emmott is over the hill at 55 so nothing will be too extreme. And there is no shame in walking the really gnarly sections. Video

Bikes: The Sedona trails have lots of rocks, drop offs and steep descents. It is ideal terrain for a full suspension bike. If you have a great bike of your own and want to bring it that's fantastic. You will need to pack it on the plane and then get a rack to drive it up to Sedona from Phoenix. If you don't want to bring your own, rental bikes are available.

Equipment: There will be some helmets etc. available to rent. However you should bring your own if possible. Bring a helmet, gloves, shorts, a camelback if you have one, water bottles if you don't, sunglasses and shoes. If you have clipless pedals and don't bring your own bike bring your shoes and pedals and the bike shop will install your pedals on the rental.

Rentals: We will be renting bikes from Bike and Bean. They have some nice mid level full suspension bikes. These rent for $50 a day. However we will get a discount for multiple days. Higher end upgrades are available. You can call them directly at (928) 284-0210 or make arrangements through Emmott on Technology. All we need to know is your height for proper sizing. Rental reservations should be made no later than May 25 to assure you have a bike. For more information click Bike and Bean.

Trails: The best part about the trails in Sedona is that the whole place is so amazingly beautiful. The trails all snake through the red rock country with a wide variety of terrain, lots of rocks, drop offs and steep descents. It is ideal for a full suspension bike. Most of what we will ride is single track and some jeep roads. There will be slick rock, long rolling cruises, narrow forest trails, fast downhills, highly technical sections, and best of all awesome views around every corner. To see the area and get some detail click Sedona.

Weather: Sedona is at 4500 ft. elevation. It is the transition zone from high desert chaparral to juniper forest. The average high in June is 85 degrees F. However in the mornings when we plan to ride it will be cooler and we will spend the hot afternoons inside meeting. Rain is unlikely but possible in the afternoons.

Disclaimer: Of course mountain biking can be dangerous. You risk injury, illness, permanent disability or death. Because of the nature of the world we live in you will need to sign a liability waiver before we go.
